What is MyCAA?

My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) is a scholarship program that provides financial assistance to eligible military spouses. The program can help spouses:

  • Pursue or maintain a license or certification
  • Continue their education
  • Gain employment in a career field
  • Get the credentials they need to achieve their career goals 

MyCAA is open to spouses of active-duty service members in pay grades E-1 to E-6, W-1 to W-2, and O-1 to O-3. It's also open to spouses of members of the National Guard and reserves in these same pay grades. 

Here are some things to know about MyCAA: 

  • The program provides up to $4,000 in financial assistance 
  • The scholarship can be used for tuition, licensing or certification fees, and exam fees 
  • The scholarship can be used to train online, on your own schedule, and from anywhere 
  • The application process connects you to a career coach to help you make educational decisions 
  • You can check your eligibility for the scholarship by visiting the MyCAA website or applying for an account

Frequently asked MyCAA questions

MyCAA is available to spouses of active-duty service members in pay grades E-1 to E-5, W-1 to W-2, and O-1 to O-2. Eligibility also extends to spouses of National Guard and Reserve members under Title 10 orders.

MyCAA covers tuition fees for classes, training, examinations, and courses for licenses, certifications, or associate's degrees at approved academic institutions. It provides a maximum education benefit of up to $4,000 with an annual fiscal year cap of $2,000.

 

MyCAA does not cover books, supplies, computers/laptops, student activity fees, or non-accredited courses. It also cannot be used for courses not included in your Education Training Plan or to reimburse fees for recently started or previously completed courses.

Yes. Once enrolled, coursework must be completed within 12 months for an associate's degree program and 18 months for other programs.

The $4,000 total funding has a $2,000 annual cap. You can use parts of the $4,000 at different times, but you cannot apply for the scholarship more than once.

No, MyCAA is a scholarship and does not need to be repaid. However, any expenses above the MyCAA amount must be paid by the recipient.
