Looking to fulfill the MDE Reading Requirement? We've got you covered. Choose one of Concordia University Ann Arbor's 3-credit reading courses to stay up-to-date on educator requirements for the State of Michigan. We offer two separate courses: one for elementary educators and one for secondary educators. Both of these courses have appropriate field experiences in the diagnosis and remediation of reading disabilities and differentiated instruction that will help you work with struggling students.

EDU 540/840 - Strategies for Struggling Readers & Writers in the Elementary Classroom
Gain a deeper understanding of interest inventories, English language learning screening, visual and auditory discrimination tools, language expression and processing screening, phonemics, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, spelling and writing assessment tools, and instructional strategies.
EDU 545/845 - Teaching for Struggling Readers & Writers in the Secondary Classroom
Research best practices in literacy instruction and assess students through multiple perspectives including interest inventories, learning styles, analysis, sight word vocabulary, and fluency. Engage in topics like reading comprehension and the significance of a learner’s prior knowledge in the understanding of content-area reading.

Courses offered every 8 weeks online, with an on campus option offered for 4 weeks in July.
Adult Learner Scholarships
If you are an employee at one of our Preferred Education Partner schools or districts, or an employee at a Christian school or organization, you may qualify for this scholarship. Scholarship dollar amounts are examples based on three-credit courses - actual amount per credit may vary.
- $150 toward adult accelerated undergraduate courses
- $450 toward eligible graduate courses
