This 15-credit concentration is for current and future athletic directors looking to develop or further enhance the comprehensive skillset needed for this leadership position. Our concentration is the only one in the state of Wisconsin to use the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) curriculum. Graduates of Concordia's program will be eligible to pursue national certification through NIAAA.
You must hold (or be working towards) an educational administrator license to be eligible for the athletic administration concentration. Add-on to your principal, director of instruction, director of special education & pupil services, or superintendent licensure. All 15 credits may be applied towards the master's degree in educational administration.
The field of athletic administration is rapidly evolving, and it's essential to be well-versed in the latest trends, strategies, and best practices to ensure that student-athletes have a safe, inclusive, and successful athletic experience. The 15-credit curriculum is broken down as follows:
- Leadership in Administration and Cultures of Change (3 credits)
- Legal and Ethical Leadership in Schools (3 credits)
- Foundations of Budgeting, Finance, and Planning in Athletic Administration (3 credits)
- Strategies for Organizational Management in Athletic Administration (3 credits)
- Legal Issues in Athletic Administration (3 credits)
All coursework may be applied toward a master's degree in educational administration and be completed in 6-12 months. You'll graduate well-prepared for a career as an athletic director.

Student Eligibility
- Have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.00
- Either hold or be eligible to hold a tier II WI teacher license
- Six semesters of successful full-time classroom teaching experience, or six semesters of successful experience as a pupil services professional including 540 hours of classroom teaching experience. The school business administrator license is waived from this requirement.
- Submit two letters of recommendation and a resume
- Submit an essay explaining your desire to be in the program and to become an administrator
- Review and sign the Letter of Understanding that outlines the program requirements.
